The dyestuffs made from persimmon juice is the perfection of plants dyeing This samue is made of the same thread and textile as the Indigo Samue, and the texture has brilliant feel. The biggest characteristic is it's dyeing.
The juice of sour and green persimmon used for this samue is mixed with yeast and fermented for about 2 years. The color becomes deep and creates natural color. The cloth woven by persimmon dyed thread changes its color as time goes by. By the blessing of the sun, as repeating dyeing/ drying/ washing, the color becomes deeper and deeper.
The natural color of persimmon dyeing is gentle and unwearying. It is the perfection of plants dyeing.
*What is Sour persimmon dyeing?
Sour persimmon dyeing has been used from ancient times. The history of sour persimmon dyeing begins the late Heian period (11th century). Since Edo period, sour persimmon dyeing has been started to be used for various purposes. It excels at waterproofing, preservation from decay, insect proofing and antibiotic properties. Therefore it has been used for everyday life.
However, since around 50's, sour persimmon dyeing has been forgotten by the spread of petrochemical products.
21st century is the century of eco. It is considered as natural products are earth-friendly, and in the realm of dyestuffs, indigo dyeing and sour persimmon dyeing are attracting a great deal of attention now.
